How to Setup LiveConnect for Your ESP

Below you will find the step-by-step instructions for configuring LiveConnect for your ESP.  If you do not see instructions for your ESP or have any questions during this setup process, please contact your LiveIntent Account Manager.

Estimated time for completion: Dependent on your specific ESP setup.

*Note: A LiveConnect tag is required to be placed on your website, please follow the website implementation instructions.

 

INSTRUCTIONS

 

Emarsys

  1. Ask your Emarsys support representative to activate your external analytics feature.

  2. Provide your Emarsys support representative with the following parameter and variable pair, this is to be included for all campaigns: Parameter: LiveConnect and Variable: $ascii_cname$$pers_3$

  3. Add the same parameter to your SafeRTB tag.
  4. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

  5. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveintent.com. 

  6. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.

 

Epsilon

  1. Log in to your Epsilon account and go to your Business Unit admin functionality.

  2. Add a parameter: LiveConnect and populate it with the value: ${CustomerKey}${deploymentID}: LiveConnect=${CustomerKey}${deploymentID}

  3. Add the same parameter to your SafeRTB tag.
  4. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

  5. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveintent.com.

  6. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.

 

Experian Marketing Services

  1. Ask your  Experian support representative to have MESSAGEID made available at your account level.
  2. Each of your URLs will then have: &attr=%%MESSAGEID%% appended to them.
  3. Add the same parameter to your SafeRTB tag.
  4. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

  5. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveconnect.com. 

  6. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.

 

IBM Marketing Cloud

  1. Go to Settings > Org Admin > Organization Settings.
  2. Select Integrations.
  3. Select Edit. The Update Integration page displays.
  4. Select the check box next to Enable Site Analytics Automation.
  5. Select the Site Analytics Package drop-down to choose your package. Choose 'Other' if your solution is not listed.
  6. In the Website Domain area, enter all website links in your mailing that you want to track activity. Note: There is no limit on the number of sites you can track, but you must separate each link with a comma.
    1. Enter website domain
    2. Enter LiveTag domain
  7. In the Exclude Domains text box, enter any sites that you do NOT want to track. For example, you may want to track activity on your company website but not your company blog site.
  8. The Append String for Hyperlinks area is populated automatically based on which package you have chosen. The Append String is appended to links within your mailings, which allows tracking to be reported back to the analytics provider. Note: This append string is a default that appears for each vendor. You can customize the append string based on your needs. You should also include additional URL parameters.
  9. Set the string parameter: LiveConnect=%%RECIPIENT_ID%%%%JOB_ID_CODE%% (the subscriber ID can be replaced by any unique identifier describing the subscriber as long as you do not use PII such as the raw email address).
  10. When finished, click Save.
  11. Add the same parameter to your Safe RTB tag.
  12. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

  13. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveintent.com. 

  14. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.

 

MailChimp

  1. Turn on e-Commerce link tracking by navigating to the setup stage of the campaign builder.
  2. In the tracking section, 'check' the e-Commerce link tracking box.
  3. When link tracking is on, two tags will be added to each URL in your campaign:
    • mc_cid is the internal MailChimp generated ID for the campaign
    • mc_cid is the unique, MailChimp generated ID for each subscriber
  4. Add the same parameter to your Safe RTB tag.
  5. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

  6. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveintent.com. 

  7. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.

 

Maropost

  1. Click on the email section of your Marapost Marketing Cloud account.
  2. Go to content > new content.
  3. Go to the advanced tab.
  4. Under web analytics, enter the parameter name and corresponding value. Substitution tags can be used.
    • Enter the parameter name: LiveConnect
    • Enter the value: {{contact.id}}{{campaign.id}}
  5. Add the same parameter to your Safe RTB tag.
  6. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

  7. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveintent.com. 

  8. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.

 

Oracle | Responsys

  1. Contact your customer support or Responsys account manager to enable the external tracking parameters feature. Admin access is required.
  2. Once enabled, login to Interact as account manager.
  3. Near the upper right hand corner of the Interact window, click account and choose "manage account."
  4. Under external tracking parameters, select "specify external tracking parameters."
  5. Click next.
  6. Select custom configuration.
  7. Under available external tracking parameters, click "add parameter."
  8. Create a parameter name called LiveConnect and check the required box
    1. Enter $EMAIL_ADDRESS_$$campaignid()$ as the default value
      • if client is using EMD (Email Message Designer), the value would be:
      • ${CONTACTS_LIST.EMAIL_ADDRESS_}${campaign.id}   
    2. Click Save.
  9. When setting up external tracking parameters on a campaign, both custom parameters should be automatically selected to be appended to all links (unless otherwise specified).
  10. Add the same parameter to your Safe RTB tag.
  11. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

  12. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveintent.com. 

  13. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.

 

PostUp

  1. Log into PostUp.
  2. Click on the View and Configure button, located under the AppExchange section on the Home tab.
  3. Locate the Google Analytics application.
  4. Click on the View Details link.
  5. Click on the Get Started button.
  6. Select the "Use Customer Parameters" radio button and enter: LiveConnect=[-MD5-][-MAILINGID-]
  7. Check the box for "Append Google Analytics parameters to mailings by default"
  8. Click on Save
  9. Add the same parameter to your Safe RTB tag.
  10. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

  11. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveintent.com. 

  12. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.

 

Sailthru

  1. In the details tab of the template/campaign, set 'Use Google Analytics' to 'Yes'.
  2. All links will then include 5 default UTM parameters ("URL tags"):
    • utm_campaign: will automatically be the name of the campaign as it appears in Sailthru.
    • utm_medium: will automatically be “email”.
    • utm_source: will automatically be “Sailthru”.
    • utm_term: will automatically be the name of the sending list as it appears in Sailthru.
    • utm_content: if you are sending an AB Split or AB Winner or Auto Winner Campaign, this utm parameter will be added to your links. For segment A, the value will be “A”, for B, “B” and “Final” for the Final version of the AB Winner/Auto Winner test.
  3. Go to the "Advanced" tab and replace the "email" value of the utm_medium parameter to be {text(blast.id) + text(emailnum)} or create a new UTM parameter or use another parameter if utm_medium is currently being used.

  4. When the campaign is deployed, all links will be appended with utm_medium={text(blast.id) + text(emailnum)}

  5. Add the same parameter to your Safe RTB tag.
  6. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

  7. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveintent.com. 

  8. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.

 

Salesforce Marketing Cloud

  1. This implementation requires Salesforce Marketing Cloud's Web Analytics Connector. This may require an additional purchase.

  2. Contact your SFMC account manager to enable the integration.
  3. Work with SFMC account manager to setup your account with "additional account level data tracking" by adding a parameter to all links:

    1. Create the static variable (e.g LiveConnect=)

    2. Define LiveConnect to use a personalization string: %%emailaddr%%%%jobid%% 

    3. This will add LiveConnect=emailaddress+jobid to each link, which will be unique for each email sent.

  4. Add the same parameter to your Safe RTB tag.
  5. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

  6. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveintent.com. 

  7. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.

 

Selligent

  1. Log into Engagement Sphere and access the Email module.
  2. Go to the ‘configurations’ tab at the bottom of the page.
  3. Click on ‘Trackers’. Add a new tracker. Set up the appropriate settings while creating the tracker.
    • Domain = ‘*’
    • Check the ‘custom’ option for the tracker
    • Set the following parameters: selligentid=~SYSTEM.SELLIGENTID~&actionid=~SYSTEM.ACTIONID~&campaignid=~SYS TEM.CAMPAIGNID~
      • actionid – Email ID within Journey
      • campaignid – ID of Journey (there can be multiple actionid’s in a journey)
      • selligentid – Unique Selligent ID for a record (aka – person) on a ‘list’
    • After the above parameters and settings are enabled, any email deployed out of the instance that has tracked links will have these values appended.

     6. Add the same parameter to your Safe RTB tag.

     7. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

     8. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveintent.com. 

     9. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.

 

SendGrid

  1. The client will need to be using SendGrid's API and their Google Analytics tracking.

  3. Use the API to define a unique value per message for any of the GA parameters. 

  4. Add the same parameter to your SafeRTB tag.
  5. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

  6. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveintent.com. 

  7. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.

 

WhatCounts

  1. Set your site up for Google Analytics.

    1. Go to CUSTOMER CARE > ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT > EDIT ACCOUNT.

    2. Select the Account to edit.

    3. In the Analytics section, select the option 'Customer is allowed to use'.

    4. From the listbox, select 'Google'. The Default Google Values fields are displayed. UTM Source, UTM Medium and UTM Campaign parameters are set to populate the message with “WhatCountsEmail”, [LIST NAME][SEGMENATION NAME], and [TEMPLATE NAME] respectively. UTM Content and UTM Term, added in v11.10.0, are not populated by default.

    5. Replace the value for UTM Medium to be %%$email%%%%$_campaign_id%% 

    6. Click UPDATE to save the changes.

  2. Client will "Add Google Analytics to a Campaign'
    1. Go to TASKS > DEPLOY CAMPAIGN to display the Deploy Campaign page. The wizard will guide you through the options to send the campaign.
    2. Select the Mailing Type and associated options.
    3. Click ADVANCED SETTINGS to view additional options.
    4. Scroll down to the Google Analytics Override section. All tags populated in the Account Settings are automatically selected.
    5. Make sure the UTM Medium tag is checked and the value defined to be: %%$email%%%%$_campaign_id%% 
    6. Click NEXT to continue through through and then complete the wizard.
  3. All links will then include the enabled UTM parameters.

  4. At the very least, all links will be appended with &utm_medium=%%$email%%%%$_campaign_id%%

  5. Add the same parameter to your SafeRTB tag.
  6. If not already in place, the LiveConnect tag needs to be implemented on your website.

  7. Send a test email after successful installation to test@liveintent.com. 

  8. Confirm that these steps have been completed with your LiveIntent Account Manager.
