Ads.txt & App-ads.txt

Ads.txt & App-ads.txt

It’s no secret that ad fraud is an issue that plagues the digital ad industry. In an effort to combat this threat, the IAB has developed two solutions for industry adoption: Ads.txt and App-ads.txt. These simple yet powerful solutions increase transparency for publisher inventory supply during the real-time bidding process.

What are Ads.txt & App-ads.txt?

Ads.txt and App-ads.txt each combat fraud by allowing sellers to publicly declare who is authorized to sell their inventory. This way, buyers can verify they’re buying from an authorized reseller. Ultimately, they aim to optimize sales and minimize misrepresentation.

The key distinction between the two is that Ads.txt applies to web inventory and App-ads.txt applies to mobile app and OTT app inventory. Learn more about Ads.txt (IAB) and App-ads.txt (IAB).

Why are they important?

App-ads.txt is especially important in the context of email. With the vast majority of mobile users (71%) accessing email in-app when using their device, it’s essential for our publisher partners to add LiveIntent to their App-ads.txt so that we can sell your mobile newsletter inventory in native email apps.

How to Declare LiveIntent

Step 1: Reach out to your LiveIntent team for our System Domain and your PUBLISHER ID.

System Domain
You will need LiveIntent’s system or ‘operational’ domain. Please use liveintent.com for this field in your files.
Publisher ID
Your account team will provide you with your LiveIntent PUBLISHER ID to be placed in your Ads.txt and App-ads.txt files.

Step 2: Enter the following for the three .txt fields

<FIELD 1> = liveintent.com

<FIELD 2> = PUBLISHER ID

<FIELD 3> = DIRECT

Example of how your published .txt file will look:

[liveintent.com, PUBLISHER ID, DIRECT]
