ESP Event Configuration Instructions: Mailchimp

These instructions will help email senders configure their ESPs to share data with LiveIntent. Configuring event data sharing with LiveIntent improves the accuracy and scale of several Monetization, Intelligence, and Addressability products. Different configuration options are available depending on the ESP you use. LiveConnect Email Extension

*Note: Placing a LiveConnect tag on your website is a prerequisite to configuring the LiveConnect Email Extension. If you need to add your LiveConnect tag please follow the website implementation instructions or reach out to your LiveIntent Account Team. 

What is the LiveConnect Email Extension?

The LiveConnect Email Extension is simply an additional URL parameter LiveIntent recommends that email senders add to all URLs within their newsletter to maximize newsletter monetization and improve the identity resolution of their site visitors. For more information, follow this link.

Full instructions: update tag parameters

Before starting, you will need a login to Mailchimp that has access to all reports and campaigns.

1. Turn on E-Commerce Link Tracking by navigating to the bottom of the Campaign Builder page, under Settings & Tracking.

2. Select Edit, and check the E-Commerce link tracking box.

3. When tracking is turned on, two tags will be added to each click URL in your campaign.

  • mc_cid is the internal Mailchimp-generated ID for the campaign.
  • mc_eid is the internal Mailchimp-generated ID for each subscriber.

4. The LiveConnect tag publisher script on your site will then need to be updated (or placed if not already in use).

5. The SafeRTB tag should be updated to include the same parameter: &mc_eid=*|EMAIL_UID|*

6. The LiveTag images should be updated to include the same parameter: &mc_eid=*|EMAIL_UID|*

Validate configuration with LiveIntent team

1. Send a test email to [email protected]

2. Please notify your LiveIntent Account Manager to inform them of the successful configuration or of any issue you encountered.

Advanced ESP Integration

Full instructions: enable API data exchange

Before starting, you will need a URL provided to you by your account manager. The URL will look similar to this with the parameters for the state, expires, and hmac personalized for your account:

1. Paste the URL provided by our account manager into your browser. You will be asked to login and authorize LiveIntent to access Mailchimp on your behalf

2. Click on Allow to authorize the account.

3. You should see a success screen.
